We are Minnie and Boris, two partners on a circular journey driven by our shared passion for sustainability. One thing we have in common is our absolute love for homemade granola in the morning. However, we found that there were no products available on the market that matched our taste preferences. As a result, even before our project came to fruition, we began crafting our own granola.

Our primary goal is to reduce food waste by prioritizing the use of recycled, locally-sourced ingredients. We aim to achieve the perfect crunch, and we refuse to compromise on quality by using artificial ingredients. Despite our lack of experience in the food industry, our commitment to sustainability motivates us to experiment and learn every step of the way.

So how did we end up baking circular granola?..

Driven by a passion for beer, Boris began brewing his own at home and soon became aware of the large amount of spent grain that was going to waste. Recognizing the nutritional value of this byproduct, we were inspired to explore ways to upcycle it, ultimately discovering that granola was the perfect solution.
We then contacted Brussels Beer Project to set up a collaboration and recycle their spent grain. The enthusiasm from the local brewery motivated us to launch our own granola brand and Draft granola was born at the beginning of 2021. Since then, we’ve established partnerships with other local actors and developped three different flavors for our circular granola.

Our approach to taste, ingredients, and texture was inspired by a desire to fill the gaps we noticed in other granola brands. We carefully considered what we felt was missing and crafted our recipes as a response to those observations.

Taste

At our company, we refuse to compromise on flavor! Cheaper granola brands often rely solely on oats and include minimal amounts of other ingredients such as nuts, fruits, and chocolate due to financial constraints. However, we believe that taste should never be sacrificed for cost-cutting purposes. That’s why we prioritize flavor and strive to create a granola that packs a punch with an abundance of our character-defining ingredients.

Ingredients

At the heart of our project is a commitment to reduce, reuse, and upcycle. We source only the highest quality products, such as chocolate, honey and spent grain, from like-minded projects based in Brussels. Each of these ingredients plays a defining role in our recipes, and we take pride in their authenticity. We refuse to use taste enhancers or artificial products because we believe that genuine flavor should always take center stage.

Texture

Have you ever wondered how to achieve the perfect crunch in your granola? The answer lies in the right amount of natural sugar. Unfortunately, many brands shy away from using any sugar at all, resulting in a bland and lackluster product. At Draft granola, we believe that skimping on sugar compromises the overall experience. We have found that the right amount of natural honey provides the desired crunch without causing the granola to become overly sweet.
